When NED_URL is configured, ensure_daemon verifies connectivity via ping. If the remote daemon is unreachable, ensure_daemon now logs an error and returns False rather than falling back to spawning a local daemon. This prevents two machines from running concurrent mbsync jobs against the same Maildir. In addition, app.py displays a descriptive error message advising the user to check network connectivity and remote daemon status.
